A $75,000 environment grant is aimed at reducing the impact of landfill-borne illnesses in Matamoros. The Environmental Protection Agency awarded Brownsville the money for the United States-Mexico Used Tire Mitigation Program earmarked for the Matamoros Regional Sanitary Landfill.
